VSM is a Lean management method for analyzing the current state and designing a future state for the series of events that take a product or service from its beginning through to the customer.

How is Production Lead Time (PLT) calculated in a VSM?

Production Lead Time = Total Queue Waiting Days (WIP / Daily Demand) + Total Value-Added Processing Days (VAT / Working Minutes per Day).

What is Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE)?

PCE (or Flow Efficiency) = (Value-Added Time / Production Lead Time) * 100%. In un-optimized batch manufacturing, PCE is typically under 5%, whereas world-class Lean operations achieve 15% to 25%+.

What is Rolled First Pass Yield (RTY)?

Rolled First Pass Yield is the probability that a unit will pass through all sequential process steps without any defects or rework: RTY = Yield1 * Yield2 * ... * YieldN.

How does reducing WIP inventory improve lead time?
