What should a business simulation quiz measure?
Measure whether a student can identify a controllable decision, design a fair comparison, calculate and cite results, distinguish evidence from assumption, explain a tradeoff, respect real-world constraints, and propose a proportionate next test. Simulated profit is one result to interpret; it is not a complete score for learning.
The questions below are simulator-neutral. Students answer with evidence from their own runs, so one class can use different businesses while working toward comparable reasoning targets. Teachers may copy, reorder, adapt, or print the prompts at no cost.
Build a balanced assessment

Fair-use rule: publish permitted notes, calculators, collaboration, time, and response format before the assessment. If teams share run data, identify at least one response each student must explain independently.
A. Decisions and fair comparisons
1. Controllable decision
Name one simulation input a manager can change and one result that may respond. Explain the expected direction.
2. Evidence or assumption?
Label each statement as evidence, assumption, or recommendation: “Demand will rise,” “customers served rose from 84 to 96,” and “keep the added worker next round.” Explain one label.
3. Comparable test
A student changes price, staffing, and marketing together. Why is it difficult to explain the result? Redesign the comparison.
4. Baseline
What is a baseline run, and why should its settings and units be recorded before a change?
5. Metric pair
Choose one financial measure and one customer, people, capacity, quality, safety, or waste measure for a test. Explain why both matter.
6. Confounder check
Name one uncontrolled difference between two runs that could weaken a conclusion. State how you would manage or disclose it.
B. Reading evidence and making calculations
7. Absolute change
A result moves from 120 to 138. Calculate the absolute change and state what the number represents.
8. Percentage change
Profit moves from $2,400 to $2,760. Calculate the percentage change using the baseline as the denominator.
9. Margin
Revenue is $8,000 and total cost is $6,200. Calculate profit and profit margin. Show units and rounding.
10. Unit economics
A sale brings $18 of revenue and $7 of variable cost. Find contribution per sale. What fixed costs are still missing from this calculation?
11. Break-even quantity
Fixed cost is $600 and contribution per sale is $12. Calculate break-even quantity and state one reason the real result could differ.
12. Same units
One team compares daily profit with monthly labor cost. Explain the problem and rewrite both measures on a comparable time basis.
C. Interpretation, uncertainty, and tradeoffs
13. Claim strength
Write one claim supported by your runs. Then rewrite an overconfident version so it matches what the simplified evidence can show.
14. Competing explanation
Give another plausible explanation for an improved result besides the input you intended to test. What additional run would help?
15. Tradeoff
Identify one measure that improved and one that worsened. Explain whether the benefit is worth the cost using a stated priority or boundary.
16. Constraint
Which capacity, cash, time, labor, inventory, or demand constraint appears most important? Cite two figures.
17. Model limitation
Name one real-world factor the simulation simplifies or omits. How should that limit the recommendation?
18. Next test
Propose a small next test: state the one input to change, settings to hold steady, two measures to watch, and a stop or review rule.
D. Responsible business decisions
19. Profit and responsibility
A change raises simulated profit but creates an unresolved safety, legal, privacy, accessibility, labor, or customer-harm concern. What should the team do next?
20. Advertising claim
Rewrite “guaranteed to double sales” as a bounded claim supported only by a classroom simulation result. What disclosure is needed?
21. Personal data
Why should a classroom simulation use fictional or teacher-provided information instead of unnecessary personal or sensitive data?
22. High-impact decision
Why is simulator output insufficient by itself for a real legal, financial, employment, health, or safety decision? Name a better evidence source or review step.
23. Invalid traffic
Explain why bots, click exchanges, paid-to-click schemes, or misleading promotions are not legitimate ways to improve a business result.
24. Stakeholder check
Name two stakeholders affected by your recommendation. Give one benefit, one possible harm, and one safeguard.

- Evidence ranking: Rank three pieces of evidence from strongest to weakest and justify the top choice.

- Feedback and revision: Name one piece of feedback you accepted, adapted, or declined. Explain why and show the revision.
- Confidence: Rate confidence in your recommendation from 1 to 5. What new evidence would most change the rating?
Use the reflection journal for longer response space or the evidence portfolio to preserve runs, calculations, feedback, and revisions across sessions.

Fast scoring: award 0 for missing or unrelated, 1 for a relevant claim without enough evidence, and 2 for a supported answer with correct reasoning and an appropriate boundary. When recall is not the target, provide the formula sheet and vocabulary guide. Keep the quiz accessible and fair
- Offer paper, typed, oral, visual, or teacher-scribed responses where appropriate; keep the reasoning target consistent.
- Provide formula names or a reference sheet when recall is not the target, and let students show intermediate steps.
- Use familiar examples, define specialized words, and permit extra processing time according to classroom accommodations.
- Separate language mechanics from business reasoning unless communication accuracy is an announced criterion.
- Do not surprise-grade an observation or team role. Tell students which evidence is formative, shared, and individual.
- Use only school-approved collection tools and avoid unnecessary names, emails, public sharing, or sensitive data.
If outside assistance, calculators, or AI tools are permitted, require students to verify figures against their own run records and follow the class attribution and academic-integrity policy.

How many questions should teachers use?

Can teams take the quiz together?
