Make five choices before assigning
- Choose the simulator and scenario. Use one shared scenario when students need comparable evidence, or allow a choice when the goal is transfer across business types.
- Define the decision boundary. Name one input students may change and at least two result metrics they must watch.
- Select the scope. Choose the individual sprint, paired investigation, or team decision brief below.
- Set the submission format. Accept the printable record, a typed memo, slides, or a short presentation; avoid requiring public posting or personal accounts.
- Publish the success criteria. Reward a repeatable comparison, accurate evidence, qualified reasoning, responsible limits, and a useful next test.
Suggested learning objective: Students will compare a baseline with one controlled business decision, use numerical and stakeholder evidence to explain the difference, and recommend a responsible next test while acknowledging the model's limits.

Choose an assignment scope
20-minute individual sprint
Use one teacher-selected input and two metrics. Students predict, record a baseline, make one change, rerun, and write a four-sentence conclusion.
Submit: completed evidence record plus claim, evidence, tradeoff, and next step.
50-minute paired investigation
Pairs select one testable input, complete a baseline and two comparison runs, check whether the pattern repeats, and challenge an alternative explanation.
Submit: evidence table and a 200–300 word recommendation.
Two- or three-session team brief
Teams assign operator, analyst, recorder, and reviewer roles; test two competing strategies; then present a decision with stakeholder and implementation safeguards.
Submit: decision brief, evidence appendix, peer challenge, and next-test plan.

Student assignment: test one business decision
Your task: Use the assigned xdage business simulation to answer one measurable decision question. Compare a baseline with a run in which you change one important input. Your goal is not simply to earn the highest profit. Your goal is to produce a fair comparison and a recommendation that the evidence can support.
Complete these steps
- Write a question in the form: “How does changing ___ affect ___ and ___ in this scenario?”
- Predict the direction of both effects and explain why before you run the test.
- Record the baseline scenario, important inputs, and at least three output metrics.
- Change one decision where possible. Keep the scenario and other important inputs constant.
- Run the comparison and record the same metrics with units. Repeat if time permits.
- Calculate the absolute or percentage difference for at least one metric.
- Explain what likely caused the result and name one plausible alternative explanation.
- Identify a tradeoff affecting cash, capacity, quality, customers, workers, suppliers, safety, or another stakeholder.
- State one important factor the simplified model omits or cannot establish.
- Recommend a next decision or controlled test, including a metric, guardrail, and result that would make you revise your view.
Your conclusion must include
a clear claim; specific baseline and comparison evidence; a cause-and-effect explanation stated with appropriate uncertainty; a tradeoff and responsible limit; a model limitation; and one repeatable next test. Label observations separately from assumptions.

Teacher grading alignment
Use four points in each category for a 16-point assignment:
- Decision and method: focused question, prediction, and fair comparison.
- Evidence: accurate, relevant, comparable results and calculation.
- Reasoning: evidence supports a qualified claim and considers another explanation.
- Responsibility and reflection: meaningful tradeoff, guardrail, limitation, and next test.
Adapt without lowering the reasoning goal
More structure
Preselect the input and metrics, provide two saved or printed result sets, define unfamiliar terms, and use the sentence frame: “When ___ changed from ___ to ___, ___ changed by ___; this suggests ___, although ___.”
Extension
Require repeated trials, a range or average, a competing strategy, sensitivity analysis, or a short critique of which missing real-world data could reverse the recommendation.
Limited devices
Project two teacher-run scenarios or distribute printed outputs. Students can independently calculate differences, diagnose the system, challenge claims, and propose the next test.
Accessible participation
Offer typed, handwritten, oral, or slide-based conclusions; provide readable tables and extra processing time; assign roles by strength; and do not make fast clicking or public speaking the measure of business reasoning.
Responsible-use and academic-integrity guardrails
- Use fictional classroom scenarios. Do not enter real customer, employee, financial, health, location, or confidential business information.
- Treat safety, labor, privacy, accessibility, licensing, consumer protection, and other applicable duties as constraints—not optional costs to evade.
- Do not present simulator output as a forecast, legal conclusion, financial advice, or proof that a real business decision will work.
- If outside tools or generative AI are allowed, require students to identify that help and personally verify every number, claim, and source under the school's policy.
- Do not reward fabricated runs, altered screenshots, copied analysis, hidden assumptions, or a high score without reproducible evidence.
